Kilts!

November's campout is the annual Highland Games, so if you don't already have a kilt, NOW is the time to get one.

For those new to the big wide world of Scouts -- just what ARE the Highland Games? I'm glad you asked!

The Highland Games are an annual Council-wide gathering of Boy Scouts, Explorers and Venturing Crews which features traditional Scottish games: weights, hammers, axe throwing and much more. Scouts (and leaders) will compete in fun and challenging Celtic tests of strength, endurance and skill.

So, if you're going to be part of the action, you should dress the part, right?!

The kilts are made-to-measure and cost $15. To order, bring your $15 to the Committee Room and see Mrs. Hunter.

(Moms, if you can help sew, we could really use your help. It's easy, and we will provide you with everything you need.)

2018 High Adventure Scholarships

Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Troop 1910 High Adventure Scholarship, which is made possible by generous donations to the Jacob Wright Memorial Fund established by the Wright family. Any Troop 1910 Scout planning to attend a BSA High Adventure camp in 2018 is eligible to apply.

The scholarship will cover up to $750 of the cost of attending a high adventure camp. Two additional scholarships of $250 may also be awarded.

In order to apply, scholarship applicants must be registered with the BSA and active with Troop 1910, with membership dues current at the time the scholarship is awarded.

To be considered, all applications and required supporting materials must be submitted no later than February 5, 2018 to the Troop 1910 Committee.

The official application and FAQs can be found our Jacob Wright Scholarship Page HERE.

October Campout

The October campout will be at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch (SR2) October 20-22. Troop members will have their own activity during the day but during the evening the real fun starts!  They will staff the haunted hayride for the Cub Scouts who are attending the Fall Festival. This is always a lot of fun as we hide along the trail and within the scenes and backdrops to give the Cub Scouts and their families on the hay ride a little scare.

Have a favorite costume or mask you want to use?  Bring it!

Permission forms can be found HERE.  These are due:  October 9.

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)

Signing up for a leadership position and being elected doesn't necessarily make one a natural-born leader. Sometimes those skills must be learned, honed and refined.  Enter ILST.

The purpose of the ILST course is to teach Scouts with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role. It is intended to help Boy Scouts in leadership positions within their troop understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities. ILST is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Boy Scouts. Completion of ILST is a prerequisite for Boy Scouts to participate in the more advanced leadership courses National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) and the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE).

Troop 1910's ILST event is this Saturday, September 23 from 7:30-1:00. The training will be held at the Scout House and is for anyone elected to a troop leadership position or who is considering running for an elected position in the future.

Mr. Bennett will be making breakfast and lunch and we have an exciting presentation lined up for the training. However, we need an accurate headcount for meal purposes.  Please RSVP to your Scoutmaster, Mr. Buell by Thursday evening if you plan to participate.

Troop Elections

Every six months, Troop 1910 holds their election. Troop elections allow every Scout the opportunity to choose the strongest leadership to run the Troop.  Everyone has something to offer. Plus, Scouts that are First Class or above need to hold a position of leadership within the troop in order to advance in rank.

We currently have some leadership positions open with no one running for them -- Webmaster, Historian, Leave No Trace trainer, and Bugler. This is your chance to get the required leadership experience for advancement.

Every position has a something important to teach about leadership, and it's vital to our troop that we all work together to make it go. So go ahead and run for one of these positions. The current SPL team will teach you everything you need to know to be successful in your position.

Scouts interested in running for an elected position, together with their parents, need to complete THIS FORM and turn it in to Mr. Spisak by Friday, September 15.  Elections will be held Monday, September 18 at the regularly scheduled Troop meeting.

September Camping

Troop 1910 heads to Cleburne State Park to work on the Fishing Merit Badge this weekend. If you are attending, be sure to check your e-mail for all of the details and we will see you at the Troop Barn at 5:45 pm tonight to load up. Don't forget your poles and tackle boxes!

If your Scout needs medication over the weekend, be sure to complete THIS FORM and bring with you to deliver to the adult leader designated Medicine Man for the weekend.
