Recharter

It's time to recharter!

As a brief reminder, recharter is a full membership audit of all registered members (youth and adult) for Troop 1910.  We conduct our recharter October-November each year. The Troop has to submit our Recharter documents before the first week of December to the Boy Scouts of America for the 2019 calendar year.

As part of this process, each Scout and leader must, in short, re-register for the upcoming year meaning payment of dues and submission of TWO complete BSA Health Forms A&B (with all necessary copies of insurance cards and/or shot records attached thereto).

If paid by the deadline, Recharter dues are as follows:

  • Scouts are either $110 or $122 if your son wishes to receive the Boy's Life Magazine, (it’s an additional $12)
  • Assistant Scoutmasters and Committee Members are $35.50

The annual registration fee for youth members of Troop 1910 is reached from four components:
  • National Dues – this fee is paid directly to the Boy Scouts of America for each youth in the unit and registers the Scout for the period from January through December. $33 per registrant
  • Liability Insurance -- $2.50 per registrant
  • Boys’ Life – this is the monthly magazine of the Boy Scouts of America and is completely optional. However, it’s a great read that reinforces Scouting and the good family values that are part of our program. As stated above, the $12 subscription to for Boys’ Life is optional.
  • Troop Fee – $74.50 Troop 1910 charges an annual fee to help cover the cost of running the Troop. This fee includes all program costs and is set each year by the Troop Committee. At the very basic level, this covers the advancement, awards, mother's pins, merit badges, Cyber Chip patches, as well as helping maintain and repair the Troop equipment used every month on the campouts and at Troop events.
However, as I'm sure you can realize, the $74.50 Troop Fee does not even begin to cover the annual expenses associated with each boy in the Troop. Thus, we rely heavily on fundraising to ensure an awesome program for our Scouts. A Scout is Thrifty.

Membership renewals will be accepted tonight or the 11/26 meeting. Recharter payments, Health Forms and valid YPT certifications are due no later than that so that we know you are continuing your path in Scouts with Troop 1910.  If you do not meet the 11/26 deadline, there is a $15 membership fee increase when you do submit your payment. By rechartering early, we are avoiding the dues increase this year.

Oh, and don't forget that TWO...

...is the magic number! We need TWO COPIES of the BSA Health Form A and B (this does not require a doctor's signature, but it does require a copy of your insurance card (front and back) as well as shot records. The BSA Health Form is HERE.

In an effort to streamline this process, please reference the links below for detailed instructions:

  • Recharter Checklist (Print this out and turn in with your forms and payment)
  • Troop 1910 Recharter 2019 Payment Form – This will tell you what is due for your family. NOTE – please add $12.00 to the payment if you would like to receive Boy’s Life (this was sent via e-mail. Please check your e-mail for the file)
  • BSA Medical Form Parts A and B  Please see this EXAMPLE to aid in ensuring your forms are filled out properly. A blank, fillable Medical Form Parts A and B can be found HERE
E-mails were sent out to the Troop at large from the ASM conducting the recharter for our unit, Monica Attel. If you were unable to find your name on the payment form OR If you are NOT Rechartering with Troop 1910 for 2019, please e-mail her at monica.attel@verizon.net so she can update the Troop Records.

I Want YOU...

We aren't kidding when we say it takes a village and as attrition takes place and people move, we need to expand our volunteer resource base. Please don't think that you can't help... training is provided for any and every position. Investing in your son and his unit can make all the difference in the world between a mediocre and a robust Troop.

We need Committee volunteers... specifically a Membership Coordinator who will be back-up to Peter Leath and a Camping Coordinator to be back-up to Mike Hunt. These are critical positions for our Troop’s success, so please reach out to our Committee Chair, Bob Morgan to let him know you're ready to help us out!
