Levels of Completion in Scoutbook

All advancement items go through a series of  "done" in Scoutbook.

Those are as follows:

Complete
Leader Approved/Recorded, and
Awarded

COMPLETE
This is the least important status for this Troop. Basically, this is there to allow a Scout or a Parent (which we have often) to mark an item as Complete pending Leader review and approval. This functionality is in Scoutbook to put more power in the Scout's hands as well as facilitate a digital transaction between Scout and Leader. Imagine a scenario in a small rural Troop where the counselor is in a different town. The Scout could mark something Complete, document with notes and video to his counselor, and the counselor could mark that requirement Approved without ever seeing the scout face to face. We don't do much of that in Troop 1910, therefore this really isn't an important status for us.

Note: Items marked Complete that are unapproved go on a "Needs Approval" report. If your Scout's name is on this report, he should see an ASM or Merit Badge Counselor and request approval of these items as nothing moves forward without approval.

LEADER APPROVED / RECORDED
This is the most important status for any Scout or Leader to be concerned with; it is the Scoutbook equivalent of getting an ASM or MBC sign-off in the handbook or on a blue card. To make sure this is as confusing as possible, you will see this in different places in Scoutbook as Leader Approved, Leader Approved/Recorded, or Approved/Recorded. The important word is "Approved". Rank or Merit Badges that are "Approved" will go on to be awarded at the next Court of Honor. Approval also happens for individual requirements within a rank or merit badge, or things like the Cyber Chip. Committee will ask you to get all Scoutbook rank advancement items approved before your Board of Review.

Parents/Scouts: Any ASM can approve Rank advancement items. Merit Badge Counselors can approve Merit Badge items, or an ASM or Committee can approve Merit Badge items with proof (signed off Blue Card). Please remember to ask for the Scoutbook signoff at the same time as the pen and ink signoff.

ASMs and Merit Badge Counselors: You are the ones responsible for approving advancement times, so look for "Approved" check box when entering items into Scoutbook.

AWARDED
This gets marked quarterly after each Court of Honor by the advancement coordinator in Committee or myself. It's only important due to the way the Troop orders new patches and reports advancement to Council. Most ASMs and Leaders (other than Committee) or Parents don't need to worry about this one.

Leaders: Please do NOT mark an item Awarded! This risks the item not getting captured for the next Court of Honor or getting reported to Council. We keep paper records to guard against this, just in case.

Hope this helps. Let me know if there are any questions! Thanks!

Patrol Selection

Sr. Patrol Leader Emblem | Boy Scouts of America

From your SPL Team regarding Patrol Selection:

As is typical at Spring elections, the patrols are being reorganized in order to better distribute experienced scouts.

The link below will lead you to a poll that allows you to tell the SPL team which Scout(s) you would like to be in a patrol with.

The ASPL of patrols will be searching for those who have put each other down on the list so make sure to talk to those you wish to be with so that you have the highest chance of being put with them.

If you do not answer the poll by May 11, then you will be assigned in whatever patrol that he sees fit. The faster you sign up, the more likely you will be grouped with who you want.
