Camp Card Fundraiser

Each year (generally after the March Roundtable), Troop 1910 begins allowing Scouts' parents to check out Camp Cards at Troop meetings for those Scouts desiring to participate in this optional fundraiser.

Camp Cards are coupon cards made available through Longhorn Council that are sold for $10 each. Of that, $5 goes to your son's Scout Account.

Our Committee reserves time slots at various storefronts to give Scouts the opportunity to participate in what is called a "Show-N-Sell". This provides easy sales for motivated Scouts.  At a typical Show-N-Sell, a Scout can sell about 20 cards, which means he’s making $100 in two hours to help fund his Scout adventures!  That’s hard to beat my friends.

Collect the money at point of sale and turn in all money and/or unsold cards to the Camp Card Coordinator by the end of April.

The Troop must pay Longhorn Council $5 per card OR return unsold cards by the May Roundtable. Our Troop does not benefit in any way from Camp Card Sales - this fundraiser is solely for the benefit of your Scout to help him pay his own way.

However, if your son receives a donation, rather than a card purchase, that must be turned in to the Troop, due to tax issues.

Please be aware that once you take possession of the Camp Cards, you are responsible for their value, i.e. if you lose them, you must pay the Troop $5 per card because that's what we must pay Council for each card that we don't return.

New Parent Meeting



There will be a meeting for parents of new Scouts tonight in Room 204. During this meeting, you will learn how Troop 1910 works. You'll discover how rank advancements are achieved, how merit badges are earned, how patrols are organized, and more. Even if your Scout is not new to the troop, but you've been wondering what your Scout is doing (or should be doing) on Monday nights and at campouts, you are welcome to attend the meeting.

Your Vote Counts!


Troop elections will be held tonight. It is very important that every Scout attend. Your elections allow you to choose your troop leaders for the next six months. Plus, we must have a quorum to conduct elections, so your attendance is critical. As a reminder, all Scouts running for election should be prepared to give a one-to-two minute speech detailing why troop members should vote for you.

If your Scout sold flowers -- they are here! Please make plans to pick up your order between 3:30 and 5:30 in the parking lot behind KUMC. If you are not able to pick them up until after 5:30, please contact Mrs. Hillebrand at 817-727-7930 and let her know.

April Camping - Mustang District Camporee

The Mustang District Camporee is coming up April 13-15. This year's theme is Viking Adventure. Camporee is always a full weekend of fun, with lots of things to do and see! The Order of the Arrow Callout will be Saturday night, so if you are eligible for OA be sure to attend, and if you are already an OA member come and support your brothers. The fee for Camporee is $15/attendee. The permission form link is below and is due along with the fees on March 26.

Last Call For Summer Camp

Tonight is the last night to sign up for summer camp. This year, we will be going to Worth Ranch in Palo Pinto, TX, June 17-23. There's no better way to get those much-needed merit badges or to achieve rank advancement than to attend Summer Camp. And the price is so affordable -- $275 for a whole week of fun!

March Camping Payments Due Tonight



March's camping trip will be held March 23-25 at Meadowmere Park near Lake Grapevine. The program will focus on our TENDERFOOT SCHOOL which is a great opportunity for our older Scouts who need to teach a skill for a sign-off to help out the new Scouts who just crossed over from Cub Scouts. The best opportunity for leadership is to make yourself available to lead!

Adult Adventure Weekend at Bechtel


To All Adult Volunteers, Unit Leaders, and BSA Staff – THANK YOU – for helping youth experience the grand Adventure that is Scouting! No matter the location – Troop Meetings, Service Projects, Council Camps, National Jamboree, High Adventure Bases – youth are developing skills, confidence, and character in Scouting because of YOU!

Since preparing for their Adventures begins with YOU, we are excited to invite YOU to the first Adult Adventure Weekend at the Summit Bechtel Reserve June 20-24, 2018!

The focus is simple… it’s YOUR turn to ride the zip lines, climb rocks, shoot guns, ride bikes, fish, tour, eat great food, hang out with friends, and experience Adventures that are normally reserved for youth – Both at the Summit and in the New River Gorge!

But the Adventure won’t end there – Evening programs focus on the shared goal of providing more Outdoor Adventures for more Scouts in the future. Partnering with YOU – To generate energy for Adventures that increase membership, retention, and camping opportunities in YOUR Council!

The Natural Inquirer


Natural Inquirer is an amazing free science education journal written for students in middle through high school. It was created so that scientists could share their research with students. Much of their research aligns with many of the BSA's merit badges!

Each article follows the same format as a scientific journal article by including an Introduction, Methods, Findings, and Discussion section. Additionally, each article has a Meet the Scientist section, Thinking About Science section, Thinking About the Environment section, and a FACTivity. The FACTivity is a hands-on activity that reinforces a concept from the article. All articles are correlated to National Education Standards.

Personally, I love the idea of how it can give kids a true insight into real word application for research as well as the potential fields of education directed toward careers in the industry. It gives specific lists of what type of scientist performed what type of research.  This digital magazines also provides a way to learn to think critically like a scientist through their research process.  I encourage you to check it out!

Don't Mess With Texas Art Contest


Did you know that Texans ages 16-34 are the most likely to litter? We need to do all we can to motivate young Texans to keep our environment free from trash. Help Don't mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful teach our future leaders the importance of litter prevention by getting involved in the Don't mess with Texas® K-12 Art Contest!

This contest is a great way to share the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful litter prevention messages with our Scouts so that they learn good habits now to last them a lifetime! What a great way, too, to bring the message of Scouting to the whole State of Texas!

Entry deadline is April 20, 2018.  

There are some pretty cool prizes!  I know we have some creative Scouts!  Do your best and you may wind up one of the winners!
Texas students enrolled in grades K-12 are invited to submit original artwork promoting litter prevention and keeping Texas beautiful. The contest begins January 16, 2018. All entries must be submitted or postmarked by April 20, 2018. Entries will promote the Don't mess with Texas and/or Keep Texas Beautiful litter prevention slogans. Decisions will be judged based on creativity and uniqueness, inclusion of a litter prevention message and interpretation of theme, overall visual appeal, composition and age appropriateness. Students who create the top 13 winning designs will have their artwork assigned to a month or placed on the cover of the 2019 Don't mess with Texas Calendar. Each will also win a Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7" tablet donated by Samsung. All student winners and runners-up may be showcased on the Don't mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful websites and social media sites, at the 2018 Keep Texas Beautiful annual conference, in media announcements, and through other channels.
